Šepić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Pazin area , rarely Italians (from Buje ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Zagreb. In Novaki Motovunski in Pazin area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Šepić.
Prevalence
About 510 people with faimily name Šepić live in Croatia today, in 230 households. There were 670 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 32 cities and 47 other places, mostly in Rijeka (90), Zagreb (45), Rukavac in Opatija area (25), Opatija (25), and in Matulji in Opatija area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1692 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
