Šegrt families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Djurdjevac area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Drnis area and in Backa, Vojvodina.
Prevalence
About 120 people with faimily name Šegrt live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Podravske Sesvete in Djurdjevac area (25), Split (15), Djurdjevac (<10), Rijeka (<10), and in Zagreb (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1924 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
