Šegan families are often Serbs and they are mostly from Ogulin area , less frequently Croats. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Ogulin and Grubisno Polje.
Prevalence
About 130 people with faimily name Šegan live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Padjene in Knin area (15), Josipdol in Ogulin area (15), Zagreb (15), Ostarije in Ogulin area (15), and in Ogulin (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1930 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
