Šarić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Makarska area , barely Serbs, and Bosniaks (Tuzla Region, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Zadar. In Tribić in Western Bosnia every third inhabitant had the family name Šarić.
Prevalence
About 6800 people with faimily name Šarić live in Croatia today, in 2800 households. There were 4200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 103 cities and 428 other places, mostly in Zagreb (1175), Split (640), Zadar (310), Sibenik (185), and in Rijeka (175).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1669 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
