Šantić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Brac. According to some sources they are from Bistra in Hrvatsko Zagorje. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In places Šantići and Donja Rovna in Middle Bosnia every eighth inhabitant had the family name Šantić.
Prevalence
About 1000 people with faimily name Šantić live in Croatia today, in 450 households. There were 1000 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 56 cities and 122 other places, mostly in Zagreb (160), Split (115), Postira on the Island of Brac (90), Trogir (45), and in Tribunj (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
