Šantak families are Croats and they are mostly from Sveti Ivan Zelina area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Sveti Ivan Zelina. In Mlaka in Sveti Ivan Zelina area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Šantak.
Prevalence
About 250 people with faimily name Šantak live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 260 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 20 cities and 30 other places, mostly in Zagreb (70), Poznanovec in Lepoglava area (25), Sopje in Slatina area (15), Krizevci (15), and in Sesvete (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1701 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
