Šamanić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Krk. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Novi Vinodolski. In Garica on the Island of Krk every sixth inhabitant had the family name Šamanić.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Šamanić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 9 cities and 17 other places, mostly in Rijeka (50), Krk on the Island of Krk (25), Crikvenica (10), Kras on the Island of Krk (10), and in Novi Vinodolski (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
