Šalov families are Croats and they are mostly from Trogir area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Trogir area and in Split. In places Gustirna and Dograde in Trogir area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Šalov.
Prevalence
About 370 people with faimily name Šalov live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 17 other places, mostly in Split (70), Dograde in Trogir area (45), Nin (40), and in Marina (35) and Gustirna (30) in Trogir area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
