Šajnović families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Garesnica. According to some sources they are from Vinkovci area or even Biokovo area, and rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cakovec and Garesnica. In Zapolje Brodsko in Delnice every third inhabitant had the family name Šajnović.
Prevalence
About 570 people with faimily name Šajnović live in Croatia today, in 230 households. There were 410 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 36 cities and 84 other places, mostly in Veliki Pasijan (75), Zagreb (35), Omisalj on the Island of Krk (25), Zapolje Brodsko (25), and in Zasadbreg in Cakovec area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
