In Croatia, Šajin families are predominantly Croats (from Virovitica area ), rarely Serbs, and very rarely Roms (from Bjelovar ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Vinkovci and Bjelovar.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Šajin live in Croatia today, in 12 households. There were 10 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 6 cities and 5 other places, mostly in Zagreb (<10), Pitomaca in Djurdjevac area (<10), Gradina in Virovitica area (<10), Vinkovci (<5), and in Novi Jankovci in Vinkovci area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
