Čuljat families are Croats and they are mostly from Obrovac area. According to some sources they are from the well of the river Buna. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Rijeka. In Vučipolje in Knin area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Čuljat.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Čuljat live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 240 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 28 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Zagreb (60), Rijeka (35), Hrastovac (10), Oriovac in Pleternica area (10), and in Jurandvor on the Island of Krk (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
