In Croatia, Čohan families are Croats (from Karlovac ), barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and in Duga Resa area.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Čohan live in Croatia today, in 20 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in two Croatian counties, two cities and 5 other places, mostly in Gornje Stative (30), Karlovac (25), Vrbanska Draga (<5), Podravske Sesvete in Djurdjevac area (<5), and in Donje Mekusje (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
