Čiš families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Orahovica area , rarely Slovaks (from Nasice ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Orahovica area and in Nasice.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Čiš live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 60 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are only located in in 6 Croatian cities and 17 other places, mostly in Zokov Gaj in Orahovica area (25), Zagreb (20), Zdenci in Orahovica area (20), Breznica Nasicka in Nasice area (<10), and in Jelisavac (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
