In Croatia, Čip families are generally Croats (from Slatina area ), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Sarajevo area) and in Slatina area.
Prevalence
About 10 people with faimily name Čip live in Croatia today, in 6 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in four Croatian counties, four cities and two other places, mostly in Makarska (<5), Veliko Brdo (<5), Rijeka (<5), Slatina (<5), and in Nova Bukovica in Slatina area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
