Čečura families are Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Western Bosnia (Livno area) and in Middle Bosnia (Zenica area). In Smričani in Western Bosnia every seventh inhabitant had the family name Čečura.
