In Croatia, Česko families are predominantly Croats (from Dubrovnik ), rarely Slovaks (from Backa, Vojvodina ), and very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik and Gospic.
Prevalence
About 30 people with faimily name Česko live in Croatia today, in 10 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in threee Croatian counties, threee cities and threee other places, mostly in Dubrovnik (15), Grbavac in Dubrovnik area (<10), Visnjevac (<5), Zagreb (<5), and in Mokosica (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
