In Croatia, Čapek families are almost entirely Croats (from Pakrac ), very rarely Czechs (from Krizevci area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Krizevci area and in Koprivnica. In Brežani in Krizevci area every third inhabitant had the family name Čapek.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Čapek live in Croatia today, in 16 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in 6 Croatian counties, in 6 cities and two other places, mostly in Krizevci (20), Badljevina (<10), Daruvar (<5), Zagreb (<5), and in Rijeka (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
