Čale families are Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Grude area) and in Imotski area.
Prevalence
About 350 people with faimily name Čale live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 20 cities and 30 other places, mostly in Zagreb (170), Split (40), Sesvete (40), Velika Gorica (15), and in Donja Lomnica (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1938 in source Phone Book - Zagreb 1938.
