Ćurin families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. According to some sources they are from Crveni Grm in Herzegovina or from Slovenia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Hvar and in Split. In Gdinj on the Island of Hvar every fourth inhabitant had the family name Ćurin.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Ćurin live in Croatia today, in 100 households. There were 30 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 7 other places, mostly in Split (70), in Hvar (40) and Gdinj (35) on the Island of Hvar, Zagreb (30), and in Jelsa on the Island of Hvar (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
