Ćuk families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Split. In Gornji Muć in Sinj area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Ćuk.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Ćuk live in Croatia today, in 510 households. There were 700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 105 other places, mostly in Zagreb (310), Split (115), Krasic in Jastrebarsko area (60), Solin (45), and in Rijeka (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
