Zubak families are Croats and they are mostly from Benkovac area or Obrovca. According to some sources they are from Hrvatskog zagorja (selo Šimunci). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Derventa area) and in Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 1000 people with faimily name Zubak live in Croatia today, in 410 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 50 cities and 80 other places, mostly in Zagreb (250), Slavonski Brod (125), Sesvete (65), Zadar (60), and in Jasenice in Benkovac area (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
