Zečević families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Posavina , less frequently Serbs, and Montenegrins. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Brcko area) and in Bosanian Posavina (Odzak area). In Gornji Zovik in Bosanian Posavina every fifth inhabitant had the family name Zečević.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Zečević live in Croatia today, in 520 households. There were 610 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 60 cities and 123 other places, mostly in Zagreb (170), Slavonski Brod (65), Pula (65), Drenovci in Zupanja area (55), and in Rijeka (55).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
