Zanki families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Vis. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and on the Island of Vis.
Prevalence
About 180 people with faimily name Zanki live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 230 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 7 other places, mostly in Komiza on the Island of Vis (70), Privlaka in Zadar area (55), Split (35), Zagreb (30), and in Zadar (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
