Zaninović families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In Velo Grablje on the Island of Hvar every fourth inhabitant had the family name Zaninović.
Prevalence
About 380 people with faimily name Zaninović live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 340 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 16 other places, mostly in Zagreb (100), Split (80), Sibenik (70), and in Hvar (65) and Stari Grad (20) on the Island of Hvar.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1729 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
