Zaklan families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Orahovica , often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Otocac area and in Gospic. In Kašići in North Herzegovina every second inhabitant had the family name Zaklan.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Zaklan live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Zagreb (10), Orahovica (<10), Split (<10), Rijeka (<10), and in Matulji in Opatija area (<10).
Outside Croatia
Family name Zaklan is present in 12 countries on three continents. The family name "Zaklan " is used by some 100 people in the United States , small number in Canada , and small number of people in Germany. "Zacklan " is used by small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
