Zabrdac families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Daruvar area , but often Croats (also from Daruvar area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Daruvar area and in Daruvar. In Veliki Bastaji in Daruvar area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Zabrdac.
Prevalence
About 40 people with faimily name Zabrdac live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 8 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Osijek (<10), Zagreb (<10), Veliki Bastaji in Daruvar area (<10), Rijeka (<5), and in Skodinovac in Daruvar area (<5).
Outside Croatia
Family name Zabrdac is present in 9 countries on four continents. "Zaberdac " is used by small number of people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
