Walter families are Croats and they are mostly from Vrbovec area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Vukovar and in Vrbovec area. In Vinkovec in Vrbovec area every fourtieth inhabitant had the family name Walter.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Walter live in Croatia today, in 40 households. There were 40 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 90 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Pula (<10), Vukovar (<10), Djurdjenovac in Nasice area (<10), and in Donji Miholjac (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
