Wagner families are Croats and they are mostly from Pakrac. According to some sources the family name originates from Wiener Neustadt (Austria). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Varazdin.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Wagner live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 35 cities and 9 other places, mostly in Zagreb (25), Varazdin (15), Dubrovnik (<10), Rijeka (<10), and in Veliki Zdenci (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
