Surname Vukšić in modern Croatia

Vukšić families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Nova Gradiska area. According to some sources they are from Split or Drnis area (Ruzic), rarely they are Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area). In Otok in Herzegovina every fourth inhabitant had the family name Vukšić.

Prevalence

About 1200 people with faimily name Vukšić live in Croatia today, in 470 households. There were 910 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent.
They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 92 other places, mostly in Zagreb (185), Sibenik (130), Solin (85), Split (75), and in Resetari in Nova Gradiska area (30).

At least 13 families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: Australia (3), Germany (2), Austria (2), Switzerland (2), Sweden (1), the United States (1), France (1), and to Canada (1).

The family name "Vuksic " is used by some 200 people in the United States , about 90 in Canada , and some 80 people in Australia. "Vuksich " is used by some 50 people in the United States and small number in New Zealand.
