Vukšić families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Nova Gradiska area. According to some sources they are from Split or Drnis area (Ruzic), rarely they are Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area). In Otok in Herzegovina every fourth inhabitant had the family name Vukšić.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Vukšić live in Croatia today, in 470 households. There were 910 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 92 other places, mostly in Zagreb (185), Sibenik (130), Solin (85), Split (75), and in Resetari in Nova Gradiska area (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1691 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
