Vukas families are often Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Sinj. In places Vedrine and Ljut in Sinj area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Vukas.
Prevalence
About 830 people with faimily name Vukas live in Croatia today, in 350 households. There were 1000 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 49 cities and 82 other places, mostly in Vedrine in Sinj area (90), Zagreb (70), Trilj in Sinj area (65), Rijeka (60), and in Split (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned about one hundred times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
