Vuk families are Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Middle Bosnia (Skender Vakuf area). In places Zapeće and Zubovići in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Vuk.
Prevalence
About 1800 people with faimily name Vuk live in Croatia today, in 760 households. There were 1700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 64 cities and 230 other places, mostly in Zagreb (340), Prelog (65), Cakovec (60), Slatina (50), and in Cernik in Nova Gradiska area (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
