Vrkić families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Obrovac , barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Obrovac and Benkovac. In Nova Sela in Omis every fourth inhabitant had the family name Vrkić.
Prevalence
About 1300 people with faimily name Vrkić live in Croatia today, in 480 households. There were 680 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 43 cities and 71 other places, mostly in Zadar (320), Split (115), Zagreb (105), Rijeka (85), and in Krusevo (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1842 in source Catholic Church Parish Records 1842.
