Vrhovac families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Novi Travnik area) and in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area). In Zenepići in Middle Bosnia every third inhabitant had the family name Vrhovac.
Prevalence
About 300 people with faimily name Vrhovac live in Croatia today, in 130 households. There were 150 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 34 cities and 47 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Slavonski Brod (25), Djakovo (20), Knin (15), and in Koncanica in Daruvar area (15).

Family name Vrhovac is present in 18 countries worldwide. The family name "Vrhovac " is used by some 70 people in the United States , small number in Germany , and small number of people in Austria.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
