Vitaljić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Vis. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and on the Island of Vis. In Komiža on the Island of Vis every twentieth inhabitant had the family name Vitaljić.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Vitaljić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 120 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in 7 Croatian counties, in 11 cities and four other places, mostly in Split (50), Komiza on the Island of Vis (45), Zagreb (15), Zadar (<10), and in Rijeka (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1929 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
