Virag families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Ludbreg area. According to some sources they are Korenica area, less frequently Hungarians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Ludbreg area and in Virovitica. In Novo Selo Podravsko in Ludbreg area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Virag.
Prevalence
About 200 people with faimily name Virag live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 21 cities and 25 other places, mostly in Novo Selo Podravsko in Ludbreg area (35), Zagreb (30), Babina Greda in Zupanja area (10), Batina in Beli Manastir area (10), and in Orahovica (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
