Vilić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia. According to some sources they are from Bosnian Posavina, rarely Serbs, and Bosniaks (Cazinska Krajina, Bosnia). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Maglaj area) and in Cazins Region, Bosnia (Cazin area). In Mutnik in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every sixth inhabitant had the family name Vilić.
Prevalence
About 480 people with faimily name Vilić live in Croatia today, in 210 households. There were 260 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 44 cities and 47 other places, mostly in Zagreb (85), Rijeka (40), Split (35), Drenovci in Zupanja area (25), and in Osijek (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
