Vidak families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area. According to some sources they are from Hungary, very rarely Serbs from Petrinja area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Bosanska Gradiska area) and in Zagreb. In Bukovac in Bosanian Posavina every seventh inhabitant had the family name Vidak.
Prevalence
About 970 people with faimily name Vidak live in Croatia today, in 380 households. There were 720 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 41 cities and 112 other places, mostly in Zagreb (225), Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (40), Budinscina in Zlatar area (40), Rupalj in Zadar area (30), and in Rijeka (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
