Veža families are Croats and they are mostly from Ploce area. According to some sources vuku korijene from Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Ploce area. In Brist in Ploce area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Veža.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Veža live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Split (40), Podaca in Ploce area (35), Zagreb (15), Brist in Ploce area (10), and in Igrane in Makarska area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
