Verbanac families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Labin area , barely Italians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Labin and Pula. In Santalezi in Labin area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Verbanac.
Prevalence
About 250 people with faimily name Verbanac live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 31 other places, mostly in Labin (75), Nedescina in Labin area (40), Pula (25), Barban in Labin area (20), and in Rabac (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
