Veić families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj area and in Split. In places Neorić and Sutina in Sinj area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Veić.
Prevalence
About 360 people with faimily name Veić live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 25 other places, mostly in Split (135), Neoric in Sinj area (115), Zagreb (30), Osijek (10), and in Solin (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1742 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
