Valjan families are Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area) and in Rijeka. In Paklarevo in Middle Bosnia every sixth inhabitant had the family name Valjan.

They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 31 other places, mostly in Rijeka (25), Zagreb (20), Djakovo (15), Zastenice in Rijeka area (15), and in Knin (10).
