Valek families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Pregrada area , rarely Czechs (from Grubisno Polje ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Pregrada. In Velika Gora in Pregrada every seventh inhabitant had the family name Valek.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Valek live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 280 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 34 other places, mostly in Zagreb (60), Gora Kosnicka in Pregrada area (20), Velika Gora (10), Podgorac in Nasice area (10), and in Zapresic (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
