Unković families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Korcula. According to some sources they are from west Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Korcula and in Split. In Račišće on the Island of Korcula every ninth inhabitant had the family name Unković.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Unković live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 13 cities and 13 other places, mostly in Split (30), Racisce on the Island of Korcula (25), Rijeka (20), Zagreb (20), and in Solin (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1931 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
