Surname Ulama in modern Croatia

In Croatia, Ulama families are almost entirely Croats (from Pregrada area ), very rarely Slovenes (also from Pregrada area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pregrada area and in Zabok. In Kumrovec in Pregrada area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Ulama.

Prevalence

About 30 people with faimily name Ulama live in Croatia today, in 16 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent.
They are located in four Croatian counties and four other places, mostly in Kumrovec in Pregrada area (20), Zagreb (<10), Varazdinske Toplice (<5), Velika Gorica (<5), and in Mokrice (<5).

Family name Ulama (including: Hulama , Ulamah , Ullahmah and Ullamma ) is present in 27 countries worldwide. "Hulama " is used by some 80 people in Papua New Guinea and small number in the United States.
