Turkovi almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Cabar. According to some sources they are from Sinj area, very rarely Slovenes. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Cakovec. In Krkač in Vrbovec every second inhabitant had the family name Turk.
Prevalence
About 1600 people with faimily name Turk live in Croatia today, in 730 households. There were 1800 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 62 cities and 185 other places, mostly in Zagreb (215), Cakovec (100), Mursko Sredisce (65), Rijeka (55), and in Gerovo (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
