Turčin families are Croats and they are mostly from Zlatar area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Ivanec. In places Brlekovo and Mali Komor in Zlatar area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Turčin.
Prevalence
About 410 people with faimily name Turčin live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 510 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 24 cities and 47 other places, mostly in Zagreb (155), Punikve (20), in Brlekovo (20) and Veliki Komor (15) in Zlatar area, and in Ivanec (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over forty times, the first time 1769 in source 18th Century Census.
