In Croatia, Tumara families are predominantly Croats (from Bjelovar area ), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Rijeka. In Lipovčani in Bjelovar area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Tumara.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Tumara live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 8 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Zagreb (10), Rijeka (<10), Kastav (<10), Ivankovo in Vinkovci area (<10), and in Domankus in Bjelovar area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
