Tošić families are often Croats and they are mostly from Opuzen area. According to some sources they are from Promine near Knin, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Knin area and in Knin area. In places Đevrske and Razvođe in Knin area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Tošić.
Prevalence
About 700 people with faimily name Tošić live in Croatia today, in 280 households. There were 510 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 42 cities and 61 other places, mostly in Zagreb (145), Split (60), Metkovic (35), Sibenik (35), and in Zadar (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
