Topić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Makarska area. According to some sources they are from Ogorje near Muc or Mostar area, very rarely Serbs, and Bosniaks (also Bosanska krajina). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Zagreb. In Trišćani in Rama (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Topić.
Prevalence
About 3400 people with faimily name Topić live in Croatia today, in 1300 households. There were 1100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number tripled. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 96 cities and 231 other places, mostly in Zagreb (570), Split (360), Baska Voda in Makarska area (165), Sesvete (160), and in Solin (100).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1933 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
