Tonković families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Otocac , rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Otocac and Zagreb. In Sinac in Otocac every seventh inhabitant had the family name Tonković.
Prevalence
About 1400 people with faimily name Tonković live in Croatia today, in 610 households. There were 1400 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 56 cities and 119 other places, mostly in Zagreb (260), Sinac (85), Split (65), Bribir in Novi Vinodolski area (55), and in Karlovac (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1678 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
